Hip Hop Jam 2025
I’m a little late writing this blog, but as the saying goes “better late than never” so here I am with my recent visit to Hip Hop Jam which was held in Stockwell Hall of Fame.

It was my first trip down there and I loved it! Stockwell Hall of Fame is a basketball court and creative space for graffiti artists. It’s such a cool community area, the street art and graffiti is INCREDIBLE! The Hall of Fame is managed by graffiti writer Boyd Hill, known by his street art as Solo One. The locals lobbied hard to save the space which was going to be redeveloped by a Housing Association, who in the end, invested £1 million turning it into a community creative area. I would love to see more developers doing this, creating community spaces where locals can hang out and have an area for creativity and movement, instead of these soulless huge development blocks that you see popping up everywhere.

Hip Hop Jam was held by EPIC – Every Person is Capable, which is a social enterprise that aims to empower people and achieve their true potential through arts and culture. And what better way to allow self expression and creativity than an all day event Hip Hop event that covered all the four pillars of MCing, DJing, Breaking and graffiti.
The afternoon flew by as we watched a youth street dance school show off their breaking skills for the first time in public. To see the next generation of b girls and b boys dancing and having fun, being guided by their teacher (B girl and MC Sunsun) made my heart melt.
We also watched the freestyle rappers, beatboxers, incredible b girls and b boys having fun throwing some serious shapes and interviewed Sunanda aka. B girl Sunsun who has been on the Hip Hop scene since it first took off in the UK. Hearing her talk about her influences growing up made me so nostalgic as we are the same age, and I had a very similar experience music wise. Sadly I don’t have the B girl skills, but it’s never too late to learn something… right?!

One of my favourite parts of the day was the “writing battle” where artists had 3 mins to spray paint their interpretation of a four letter word given to them. My suggestion was “LOVE”, which to me is the foundation of everything that I do, and is one of the most powerful forces in the world. The crowd voted for their favourites and the winner went through to the next round. Rapper and graffiti artist Kope was in the finals, and his piece was my favourite as he also drew a car in the final world ‘Cars’.

We had a brilliant time down at the Hall of Fame and were buzzing by the time we left. The atmosphere was nothing but good vibes and positive energy, with a real community feeling as everyone came together to celebrate all things Hip Hop. The music all day was a trip down Hip Hop memory lane, with DIs playing Chill Rob G, Public Enemy, Biggie, ATCQ, Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, Kool G Rap & Polo, Fu Schnickens, 2Pac and much more. The sun was shining, people were smiling and chatting, we bumped into new friends, cheered as they danced in the cypher and had a great time hanging out.
We had a blast – thank you EPIC for hosting such a brilliant event and big shout out to all the people that contributed to an incredible and fun day. Looking forward to the next one.
Beats, love and unity. 🎶❤️✌🏼
